But how do you make the most of your GoPro in the outdoor environment? Fear not! In this article, we’ll guide you through setting up your GoPro for optimal performance, ensuring you capture every heart-pounding moment, breathtaking landscape, and also incredible experience with unmatched clarity.

Essentials to Setup GoPro Cam:

To setup your GoPro cam, you’ll need the following:

  1. GoPro Mobile App
  2. Wifi/Hotspot & Bluetooth enabled smartphone
  3. ViuLive Mobile App (IOS/Android)
  4. 4G GSM modem (recommended)

Step 1: Link Your GoPr Cam to ViuLive & Mastering Outdoor Adventures

  1. Launch the ViuLive app.
  2. Register/Login with your preferred login method.
  3. Click on “Advanced Live” from the menu.
  4. Fill in the stream title and caption.
  5. Tap on “Add RTMP streams.”
  6. Tap on “Go Live” and proceed to tap the RTMP option.
  7. Copy the Stream URL (“chain URL,” e.g., rtmps://stm-ase1-1.viulive.com:443/live1/guuslzvw).

Step 2: Setup GoPro Cam & Start Streaming

  1. Turn the GoPro and mobile Wifi and Bluetooth on
  2. Launch the GoPro app
  3. Tap on the Camera option on the bottom left side of your screen.
  4. The app will automatically detect your GoPro camera and prompt you to connect and configure it. Tap on Connect.
  5. Once successful, a preview from the camera will appear. Choose “Live” options from the modes icon at the bottom of the preview screen.
  6. Also, Tap on “Setup Live” and choose the RTMP option.
  7. On the stream to RTMP screen, connect to Wifi/Hotspot network and paste the Stream URL in the “ENTER YOUR RTMP URL” column.
  8. You may also save a copy to your GoPro if you so desire by sliding the slider button.
  9. Tap on “Setup Live Stream.”
  10. Return to ViuLive app
  11. Tap on “Start Broadcast”
  12. Then, Tap on “Start”
  13. You are now Live with RTMP and an onboard mobile camera!

Using GSM Modem to Enhance Your Live Streaming Experience

  1. In our experience testing this, the GoPro app is inconsistent in using mobile data to live stream. Hence, we highly recommend using a 4G GSM modem.
  2. So, To set up the modem, simply insert a sim card with an active mobile plan subscription (refer to service providers) and turn the modem on.
  3. On the stream to RTMP screen, connect to the WIFI connection SSID generated by the GSM modem.
  4. On the stream to RTMP screen, connect to Wifi/Hotspot network and paste the Stream URL in the “ENTER YOUR RTMP URL” column.
  5. You may also save a copy to your GoPro if you so desire by sliding the slider button.
  6. Then, Tap on “Setup Live Stream.”

*Side note: Using 2 devices under 1 connection will work. However, we do highly recommend connecting each device to its own separate connection due to bandwidth consumption and overall data usage*
