How Screen Capture Works on ViuLive
In this article, you will find how the screen capture resolution works and what effects screen resizing can cause when streaming from ViuLive.
It’s essential to remember that when sharing your screen using the ViuLive Screen Capture tool, the application will automatically use your system monitor resolution as the screen-sharing resolution. For instance, if you have a DELL monitor with a resolution of 1920×1080, the screen-sharing resolution will be fixed at 1920×1080. This means anyone viewing your screen-sharing session will see it in the same 1920×1080 format.
The figure below shows the viewer’s side, which is how the viewer sees your shared screen; in this case, we are showing a 1920×1080 streamed image.
Now, consider what will happen if you resize the window?
It’s important to note that even if you resize the shared window during a screen-sharing session using ViuLive Screen Capture, the application will maintain the original system monitor resolution of 1920×1080. No matter how much you resize the window, the resolution will remain the same.
The pictures below show a mismatch between the streamer and the viewer. In this case, the streamer is streaming a 960×540 resolution, but the viewer is getting 1920×1080; why?
The problem arises when the streamer begins streaming at a resolution of 1920×1080. If the streamer then resizes their shared window (such as a PDF file), it causes the overall resolution to decrease on their end. However, the screen sharing section remains at 1920×1080, resulting in the streaming window appearing stretched on the viewer side.
Tips & Tricks for Screen sharing best practices
Recommended Steps to Avoid Such Issues:
- Do not resize the window while streaming. Stick to the main LCD resolution, which is full-screen size.
- Share the entire screen and not a specific window; here, you can resize the window during the stream, and it will not affect the window resolution.
